The Epi Centre, Ambleside, Cumbria: a commercial retail development project
To create a 21st century retail development out of an old café in the centre of Ambleside, working to plans drawn up by ADL Architects of Windermere.
Team on site:
This challenging project required every aspect of our building skills, especially given the incredibly limited access due to the building location. All trades worked together closely to achieve a project that came in on time and on budget in spite of the challenges. From general builders and stone masons to plumbers and electricians, plasterers and joiners, everyone played a really important role in achieving an award-winning result.
Work carried out:
Most of the original structure was demolished and then extended back to the road behind. The original façade had to be retained while the rear of the property became a modern, eco-friendly addition. The rear aspect was designed and built to complement the original building and also to be energy efficient. Awards:
The development was judged to be the best commercial project in the northwest in 2010 and also received an award from Ambleside Civic Trust.
